Mathematical representations

A mathematical representation is a simplified representation of a situation for the analysis of relationships among variables where mathematical symbols are used.

These mathematical representations are usually referred as mathematical models.

The use of these models in decision making is the main focus of Management science.

With small differences all of the following expressions refer to a discipline where mathematical models are the main focus of analysis in management:

1. Management science
2. Decision science
3. Operations research
4. Quantitative analysis
