Transports 1. Two identical units a. Upper transport #1, lower #2 2. Power Supply provides AC and DC voltages for control of transport operation. 3. Tape drive components a. Supply reel on top, take-up reel on bottom. b. Capstans rotate clockwise when transport is running. c. Pinch rollers press tape against rotating capstans to move tape from supply to take up reel. 4. Heads a. Erase - Top b. Record - Middle c. Reproduce - Bottom 5. Switches a. Stop-stops transport operation. b. Record-puts RD-379A into record mode when used in conjunction with run switch. c. Rewind/Fast Forward-accelerates speed of supply or take-up reels. d. Run-initiates transport reel movement. Used by itself it puts recorder into reproduce (playback) mode. e. Cue-used in fast forward or rewind mode to locate desired section of tape. Momentary switch, must be held down while tape is running. SG-1064 mode switch must be in IN1 or IN2. 6. Light indicators/audible alarm a. Record-amber light indicates record mode has been selected b. Safe-green light indicates transport is operation properly mechanically, NOT THAT TRANSPORT IS RECORDING!!!! c. Failure-red light indicates malfunction within transport. d. Audible alarm-sounds when transport operation fails.
