SIGMETs and AIRMETs

SOP Number & Name

3110 SIGMETS & AIRMETS

Description

        AIRMETS - non-convective (e.g.,. icing)

        SIGMETS - convective

Are put out by the NWS and are posted on the METOC Home page.

CAWW - CINATRA (Chief of Naval Education and Training) Area Weather Warning.

METOC can put these out; they are like SIGMETS, but whereas a SIGMET is a forecast, a Warning is for something that is happening. CAWWs are only valid for training--it grounds the training aircraft.
